When I Think of Research
In this course I have learned that research is ever growing, ever learning. It never stops and no one research hold the absolute correct answer to an issue. How can it? People are forever changing, the world is forever changing. What research does is provide a number of solutions to one problem during that moment of time in the world. My entire outlook of research has changed and my predictions were correct. Research can be quite difficult and even when it is a subject you are passionate about. Frustrations can kick in. Research is not for the weak and it is definitely something that you embark on with a true passion for the problem and the resolve. When conducting research it takes a lot reading, doing the same thing multiple times, refining questions, finding the best way to research etc. Some of the challenges I faced were, obviously, frustration and boredom. I honestly knew this would happen since I do not have experience reading so much information with numbers and so on. Frustration sat in when I was trying to form the research question. I just could not seem to get my wording together, but finally at the end I got it and that was an awesome small win for me. Reading so much information in a short amount of time with background information, a list a mile long of references and then researching those references along with reading the same information over and over again allowed boredom to set in. Which is why I stated earlier that you must have a heart for the problem and the resolve. My passion for answers is what guided my through and every time I hit a "boring" moment, I remember why I was doing this research. My perception remains the same that the fact of the matter is that early childhood professionals are some the hardest working, selfless people I know and it I can seem to be unrecognized at times.
Hi Quintina,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. I agree that when a research is done, there has to be passion for the problem in order to solve it. If there is no passion, I think the research may be rushed and not happened appropriately. In the childcare field, researchers need passion to work with children and their families to resolve issues and problems. I have enjoyed your comments during their course. Take care, and hope we have more courses to come.
Quintina,
ReplyDeleteI loved your post. I agreed with the boredom part about researching the sources and having to read and reread the information so many times. But I am used to going over information lots of times. When I was a student at Ashford University, I got to have digital materials so I could listen to the textbook being read to me and I listened to it over and over again while I was working out every day and doing housework, which helped me to really solidify the information in my mind. I got to think about what was being read each time I heard it and each time I had new and more detailed understanding of the information.
Quintina,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your insights about research so openly and honestly. Your opening statement on your blog resonated with me---research is ever growing it never stops, people and our world are ever changing. I so agree with you on that so our researcher have to acknowledge and keep up with that. I too found doing research difficult. I can't say it was boring but it was challenging for me I had some small victory steps or small wins as you said throughout this course as I understood a little more and more about doing research. I truly believe that like you early childhood professionals do not get the recognition that we deserve for the job that we do. But the blessing is we do not do it for the glory but for the good and well-being of the children. I have enjoyed reading your blogs and discussion post. My hope is that we will have more courses together again in the near future.
Take Care,
Emma
Quintina,
ReplyDeleteI love your post! Thanks for sharing. I agree with Emma "Research is ever growing it never stops, people and our world are ever changing". So true! I also find research difficult and felt very uneasy. It is not one of my favorite things to do, but I can say I have learned a lot throughout this course. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with your future endeavors and your next class. Best wishes!
